"Running Edge" - London Marathon 2002

14th April, Flora London Marathon 2002 Last year ex-Hamptonian Richard "Edge" Lawrence realised while training for the 2001 London Marathon that he had cancer. He died of the disease last June, and this year a group of his friends ran the Marathon in his name, as "Running Edge".

The team, organised by Steve Priest, included Edge's father, CD Riches, Angus McChesney, Su Mackenzie (Kirk), Justin Waller, Jerry Michaels, Chris Slemeck, Rachel Haining, Philippa Cross, Dominic Neary, Anna Bannon, Mike Peregrine, Mick Howe-Chester, Sue Walker, Vicky Filsell, and Jonny Searle.

Results

Everyone in the group ran on behalf of one of four cancer-related charities: Princess Alice Hospice (where Edge died), Cancer Research UK, Shaftesbury Homes, and Macmillan Cancer Trust. The fund-raising target for the team is £20,000, of which £10,000 is pledged to the cancer charities and the remainder to the Princess Alice Hospice.
