Diabetes shock for Redgrave
Steve Redgrave is suffering from diabetes. He felt unduly tired after returning from holiday after the Aiguebelette world championships and has been put on insulin to lower his blood-sugar level. Coach Jurgen Grobler said: 'He's in full training, but, if necessary, we will develop a programme especially for him.
Redgrave's crew mate, Tim Foster, will not be leading Oxford up to the 1998 Boat Race. Foster, who was elected Oxford President after last year's defeat, has failed to secure a place to read psychology and Andrew Lindsay, a former junior international bronze medallist, has replaced him.
Queen's Tower fail
Four Queen's Tower stars, Guy Pooley, Martin Kettle,Tom Gale and Jason Botterill, failed in their bid to beat the 185 mile Lechlade to Southend record in a quad on October 20. Massive planning came to naught when strong winds developed and the quartet, with 110 miles completed after 21 hours, gave up at Staines.
