4th FISA Team Cup, Seville 28th February to 1st March 1998
The British team were in cracking form at the Fourth FISA Team Cup last weekend in Seville, winning 12 of the 19 events held over 2 days and winning the sprint regatta by a clear 41 points. Saturday's racing was held over 500 metres and Sunday's over 1000 metres, with several crews doubling up and both heavyweight and lightweight crews represented. Crews from Spain, Germany, Portugal, Holland and Switzerland also won medals.
The world-dominating British 4- took gold both days, and then split into its recent training pairs, Redgrave and Cracknell winning the coxless pairs on one day and Pinsent and Foster matching them on the other. The British men's lightweight Olympic crews, coxless four and double, also won, as did Jane Hall in the women's lightweight single. Guin and Miriam Batten were absent, sadly due to a death in the family, but Gillian Lindsay rose admirably to the occasion, beating the top six German women's heavyweight scullers including Katarina Boron to take gold in the single's event.
