Banks at Molesey
Tony Banks, the Minister of Sport, visited Molesey BC in June to attend a naming ceremony of four new boats bought under the Sportsmatch Scheme. The boats are to be used by members MBC's successful junior rowing programme, aimed primarily at local state schools. The minister informally met representatives of the club's sponsors, the ARA's Di Ellis, Andy Sutch of Sportsmatch and local councillors and club officials. The minister was presented with a regatta medal and tie, which, with his penchant for black and white, it is hoped he will be seen wearing in the House of Commons. Molesey currently have over 70 boys and girls in their junior programme and have had ten regatta wins this year, including one bronze in the J16 quads at the National Schools. The club has had five successful Sportsmatch awards in three years totalling £59,000 worth of equipment.
