Heat: fourth behind Nejkova BUL 7:33.66, McBean CAN 7:32.04, Matthews AUS 7:37.21, Mowbray 7:41.55. Other qualifiers for semi-finals from heats: Fedotova RUS, Buniet FRA, Ozolijna LAT, Karsten BLR, Rutschow GER, Douglas AUS. Repechage: Mowbray qualified for semifinal behind the two Spanish scullers Nuria Dominguez and Guiomar Hernandez. All three qualify for semifinals.

Heat: Second in 5:50.43 behind Norway (5:46.12) and ahead of Australia (Stewart, Hanson, Dodwell, Stewart - 4th in World Champs 1998), Belarus and Lithuania. Qualifiers from heats to semifinals: Norway (Undset, Bjoervig, Stoerseth, Simonsen) 5:46.12 (world's fastest time), Italy (Molea, Di Rossi, Carboncini, Mornati) 5:49.72, GB1 5:52.20. Repechage: GB2 came second in a very close race between four crews for three places. Netherlands and Lithuania also qualified for semifinals. Qualified for semifinals from repechages: Netherlands, GB2, Lithuania, France, Egypt, Romania, Australia, Germany, Croatia.

Women's lightweight double scull: Tracy Langlands, Jane Hall
Heat: fifth in 7:30.74 behind Germany, Austria 1, Sweden, Japan 1. Qualified from heats to semifinals: Hrysi Bisktzi and Irine Zora (GRE) 7:00.71; Karin Stephan and Claudia Blasberg (GER) 6:57.53; Kim Pluegge and Pamela Weisshaupt (SUI) 6:54.89, Constanta Burcica and Camelia Macoviciuc (ROM) 6:54.88. Repechage: Langlands and Hall were second to the Italians Barelli and Skerlavaj to qualify for the semifinals. Heat: Fifth in 6:32.11 behind Germany 6:11.69, USA, Ukraine and Italy. First to final. Qualifiers to final: Germany 6:11.69; Denmark 5:45.60. Russia 6:15.82. Repechage on Saturday.

Men's quadruple scull: Pete Gardner, Garry McAdam, Mike Webb, Tom Gale
Heat: Sixth in 5:51.71 behind Australia 1 5:42.89, Germany 2, Belgium, First to semifinal. Qualified from heats to semifinals: Netherlands (Verberne, Lippits, Simon, Bartman) 5:39.21; Australia (Hardcastle, Burton, Day, Reside) 5:42.89; Germany (Hajek, Geisler, Volkert, Willms) 5:37.99.
