World Cup third round, Lucerne, July 9-11
The Swiss global finance company Zurich Financial Services Group becomes the presenting sponsor of the 1999 World Championships in St Catharines, Canada, from August 22-29.
The company and FISA, the International Rowing Federation, would not disclose the value of the sponsorship, which will be used to enhance facilities for spectators and participants.
It is understood that the deal includes an option for Zurich to continue its association with FISA for the World Cup and World Championships over the next three years.
Denis Oswald, president of FISA, announced at a press conference today that the dispute between German athletes, the German rowing federation and FISA over advertising regulations was at an end. The argument resulted in the termination of FISA's last sponsorship deal when the Munich brewery Krombacher terminated its support.
