Six boats through reps - Haining, Batten-Lindsay and light eight win

Olympic boats

Greg Searle faded at the start of his repechage but moved into third place shortly after the 500 metre mark and challenged the Russian Spinev for second place at 1000m. The leader was former world champion Jueri Jaanson of Estonia, world record holder until the recent world junior championships in Plovdiv. Jaanson stayed ahead all the way, while the Frenchman Hardy faded at the back and Searle maintained his qualifying place four seconds behind the Estonian and five seconds ahead of the Russian.

Men's single sculls, repechage 2: 1 Jueri Jaanson (Estonia) 6:56.71, 2 Greg Searle (GB) 7:00.71, Nikolai Spinev (Russian) 7:05.29, 4 Adrien Hardy (France) 7:09.84.

Miriam Batten and Gillian Lindsay led their repechage of the women's doubles all the way, maintaining a two second advantage over the Romanians and extending it to three seconds at the line. This is their best recent race, the British world champions having thus far been unable this season to produce their training form in competition.

Women's double sculls, repechage: 1 GB (Batten/Lindsay) 7:10.59; 2 Romania (Ignat/Olteanu) 7:13.36; 3 Denmark (Petersen/Mathiasen) 7:16.62; 4 Ireland (Stack/Hussey) 7:18.49; 5 S Africa (Cretchley/Geyser) 7:26.75.

Alison Mowbray finished second in her single sculls repechage to qualify for the semi-finals on Thursday. Her race was comfortable for the second qualifying place.

Women's single sculls, repechage 2: 1 Sonia Waddell (NZ) 7:58.64, 2 Alison Mowbray (GB) 8:04.22, 3 Sanita Ozolijna (Latvia) 8:05.62, 4 Phuttharasa Nikree (Thailand) 8:44.45.

Non Olympic boats

Peter Haining looked back to his old form as he led his repechage down the lake to qualify for the lightweight singles semi-final. By half way he had a six-second lead over the Frenchman Laurent Ceresoli in the second qualifying position and maintained this at an easy pace to the line. Nilas Nielsen of Sweden was third, progressing to a D final.

Men's lightweight single sculls, repechage 4: 1 Peter Haining (GB) 7:54.78; 2 Laurent Ceresoli (France) 8:00.46; 3 Niklas Nielsen (Sweden) 8:15.54.

Britain's lightweight eight led the repechage and finished almost a length clear in 6:09.21 to join heat winners Italy and the US in Saturday's final.

Men's lightweight eights repechage: 1 GB 6:09.21, 2 Netherlands 6:11.82, 3 Spain 6:12.39, 4 Canada 6:16.30, 5 Germany 6:18.34.

Kirsty McClelland-Brooks had a slow start in her repechage in the lightweight singles but moved up from fourth place to third after half way, leaving the Czech Pavlina Krtenova in the danger zone. The first three qualified for the semi-final round on Thursday.
