Thomas Keller Medals were awarded to the Canadians Silken Laumann and Kathleen Heddle at the World Championships in August. The Medal marks an exceptional rowing career, exemplary personality and sportsmanship, and is awarded after retirement from international competition.
Heddle competed on Canada's national team for nine years and with her partner, Marnie McBean, holds more Olympic golds than any other Canadian. She won golds in the eight and quad in 1992 and a gold and a bronze in 1996. She also holds five world medals.
Laumann won medals in 1984, 1992 and 1996 at the Olympics, being best remembered for her remarkable comeback in Barcelona after an accident during warm-up at Essen Regatta that almost put an end to her rowing career.
