- For those sending results or other large files to the Rowing Service, there is a new way to do it. Make an ftp connection to ftp.arachsys.com, and change directories to /incoming/rq/ - put your files in there. Then email me when you've done it.

- Results of the Abingdon Regatta (UK) are on the club website.

- Home Countries summary: Wales hosted the Home Countries in Belgium. the event was opened by the British Ambassador after welcoming speeches by Partick Rombaut for Belgium and Martyn Kelly for Wales. Trumpeters greeted the raising of the flags of the five nations. England fielded a strong team and won three of the team prises, with Ireland taking the junior girls. Wales, as hosts, won the mens doubles and the junior girls coxed four. Full results in the Telegraph (use Search).

- A reminder: Live commentary online from the UK Nationals today from 12:20 to 5:30 pm. Results approximately hourly on the official website. Yesterday sculler Debbie Flood broke the women's singles course record by six seconds in a heat.

- The UK National Rowing League has been updated, with Molesey men (20241) and Thames women (9234) currently heading up their respective premier divisions. These results do not however include Henley Royal Regatta yet.

- Those Brits who may have been wondering: the annual Northern Universities Boat Race between Salford and Manchester Universities was won 4:3 by Salford, after a nail-biting decider race in the mixed eights.

Confirms what was observed by those close by, that after the mucked-up IC start* they managed to pull away from Leander slightly throughout the rest of the race. (*latest version seems to be that Imperial/QT heard a confusing message rather than the usual "Crew 1, Go" from the starter, so stopped thinking there was a problem, and had to do a standing start with Leander rapidly approaching).

- The result of the 285th annual Doggett's Coat and Badge race for apprentices on the Thames (UK) was a win for Tom Woods of Poplar, Blackwall and District RC in a time which was officially announced as 29 minutes 20 seconds but clocked by the press as considerably faster. He was well clear of the four other competitors, having taken the lead from Len Saunders of Lowestoft before Waterloo Bridge. This year nobody went swimming, although the water (London Bridge to Chelsea) was as choppy as usual.
