Quotes from the British senior team:
Alistair Potts, cox of the M4+:
"We hoofed it a little bit. We led from the first stroke, which was what we always intended to do, but there was always the risk of going out too hard. By 500 metres we were getting a little tired, but you get something extra in the final. The only way we were going to lose in the last 250 was catching a crab, so we just had to keep it controlled. "
Peter Haining, steersman of the LM2-:
"We're going to train in the pair this time. We'll be back in the pair next year. Every time we do the last 30 strokes we fall to bits. The first 1500 was good this time. It was good fun - I wasn't happy [at the time] but it's good fun now. "
Nick Strange, stroke of the LM2-:
"That's what happens when you're a scratch pair (grin). We're going to carry on in the pair - we're going to give ourselves more than three weeks, and next time we'll win it. We've got the first 1750 well sorted - it's easy. You look at the results, OK, but it's what happened which matters. It's not nice being rowed down. With a bit of reflection we'll be pleased. "
Peter Haining (about the lwt squad):
"With twelve silver medals, you'd think we could make a coxless four... "
I think he's counted wrong, since there are eight rowers in the LM8+ and two in the LM2-, but who's to correct a world medallist on his maths, then?
