Friday 27th February 2004
- The 1944 Anniversary Boat Race was run the next day in Ely (UK). Times link ITV doesn't have to sell Boat Race down river (Times, Feb 28th, Giles Smith).
- "Queensgate" four-man crew from Dartmouth was the first to finish the ORSARR Ocean Regatta, completing the trip just a day outside the existing (11-man) team record of 25 days. Photos here.

- We had news that Tristran Hewins, a Hampton School and GB ex-junior who moved on to Durham University and coaching Edinburgh University BC, died on February 14th following a cycling accident a week earlier (UK).

- A bunch called International Sports Exchange in Holland decided to host a visit by what they describe as "a female American rowing group" from May 11th to 23rd 2004. They were seeking clubs in Europe who are interested in having the group to stay and to compete with them. Enquiries to Tom Boerenbrink by email.

Monday 9th February 2004
- Durham Head (UK) was first suspended, then cancelled during the pre-race marshalling of a later division, on safety grounds as a crew capsized, and one of the launches rescuing the rowers sank (see photo here sent to the RS. Nobody was hurt, but it left them with insufficient safety cover to race. Information-only times for Divs 1 and part of 2 are here on the NERN website, but there were timing difficulties so crews are advised not to rely on them and they are unofficial.

- The Argonaut Rowing Club in Toronto (Canada) are renovating their boathouse, and to relieve the tedium of having to land-train while it's too cold to go out rowing, have installed a webcam for people to see how it's going. And they'd like to remind any supporters of the club where their donations page is in case they can spare a few bucks to help.

- Atlantic rowing pride that got away from the Ocean Rowing Society.
