- Message from Lake Victoria RC (Africa) who are trying to start up their new club: "We are in a very remote part of East Africa; the southernmost shore of Lake Victoria. We're looking for a four, stern coxed or coxless (preferably coxed I think, since we need a lookout for moving logs!) that could also be rigged as a quad. It needs to be pretty rugged (obviously) and able to be transported to Geita, near Lake Victoria, in Tanzania, probably by sea container on a truck. We may be able to organise transport from our end from Dar es Salaam or South Africa, or perhaps Perth in Australia. We also need both sets of oars and perhaps some spare gear. Maintenance will be a problem, but we are determined to boat up, push off, and take that awesome first stroke. Cost will be an issue, so nothing too fancy would be preferred. Anyone able to help us out in some way will be entitled to a row and a t-shirt. We will row at Nungwe Bay for those who are geographically inclined. Contact Graeme McIlveen (also of University of Queensland Boat Club), at the Geita Gold Mine, P.O. Box 532, Geita, Tanzania, tel +255 282 520 500, fax +255 282 520 502.

- Gennady Ochkalenko has been discussing projects with the FISA Adaptive Rowing Commission. He offers to work in any English-speaking country (or one with an interpreter) which has some available rowing structure, ie club, equipment and a piece of water to use, with blind and disabled sportsmen and with rowers of any level. The deal is that the UN carries the charges, and the aim is to prepare teams for the 2008 Paralympic Games ad to cultivate local competitions and coaching of adaptive athletes. Organisations interested in hearing more should be able to supply a document to the United Nations Volunteer Office stating why they need the services of such an expert for 6-12 months. Contact Gennady on ukrrow2002@yahoo.com or ukrrow@yahoo.com so that he can provide more information.
