- The Munich World Cup organisers are carrying results, photos and information on their usual website (available in German and English).
- It turns out that the Olym-Sports picture (see yesterday) comes from uber-photographer Joel Rogers' stock. Joel is the creator of the annual USA Rowing Calendar, and has some superb shots. The Atlanta pair is in his rowing gallery online, and shame on Olym-Sports for using it unless they have paid Joel a large sum of money. Which I doubt.

- There is news from Italy that Agostino Abbagnale, triple Olympic champion ('88, '96, '00), will not be going to Athens. Abbagnale suffers from a congenital defect of protein C, which causes an increased risk of pulmonary embolism. He suffered a recent bloodclot on the lungs, and the Italian National Institute for Sports Medicine regards his risk as too great for him to be able to compete at the Greek Olympics. More (in Italian) on Canottaggio.org and Canottagio Vero.
- An interesting little matter of breach of copyright (not to mention an attempt to deceive) appears to have turned up. The Olym-Sports webpage contains a fascinating picture of Matthew Pinsent and Steve Redgrave, rowing in what appears to be one of the OS boats. The picture is in fact taken from the Atlanta Olympics, when MP and SR were rowing Aylings. So far so cheeky - the fact that the picture surely cannot be owned by the company concerned is also an issue.
- The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is advertising a full-time coach/administrator post due to the expansion of the club. [Word document, 48kb].
- A list of the crew still on for bumps at the Oxford Eights Week races (UK).
Tuesday 25th May 2004
- JamcoTimes will be doing live-updated splits for the US women's NCAA Championships in Sacramento this coming weekend (USA).
Monday 24th May 2004
- After the dramatic withdrawal of Xeno Muller from the US singles trials (during warm-up for the first final of three), there was an extraordinary win for Conal Groom over Adam Holland in the third final (more from Row2k, including an incredible photo-sequence - nice shooting, Ed!).
- The Stonemarket Boat Race Celebration Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show seems to be going down well - the link has more information, including an artist's impression - click on the thumbnail picture.
Friday 21st May 2004
- Happening this weekend, the Cambridge Championship Eights Head (UK). It's particularly creative, with champagne for winning Head crews, cox awards for the best line around Dittons Corner, and prizes for the most impressive starts. Innovative stuff.
Tuesday 18th May 2004
- Details from the ARA of presentations about the forthcoming competition review (UK).
- From FISA, Paraguay joins and Cuba dominates in a story about the Latin American qualification regatta.
Monday 17th May 2004
- Durham beat Newcastle in the Northumbria University Boat Races, winning the novice women's by 2L, the novice men's by 5L, the women's by 1L and the men's by 1/3L (UK).
- And Glasgow won three of the Walter Scott & Partners Edinburgh-Glasgow Boat Races - men's firsts by 5L, men's seconds Easily, women's firsts by 1/2L, and Edinburgh won the women's seconds event Easily (UK).
- Excellent Eastern Sprints coverage from Row2k (USA) - summary is that Navy won the varsity lightweights and Harvard won everything else.
- Results of the Pac-10 Collegiate Rowing Championships (USA) through the JamcoTimes website, where Washington beat Cal in the men's Grand Final, but Cal reversed the favour in the Women's Grand Final. The men's is rather interesting to look at, because with only one exception, the JamcoTimes predicted relative positions at each split marker of the Final were correct - based just on the morning heat profiles. The women caught Jamco napping, however!
Friday 14th May 2004
- Tomorrow sees the 2004 Edinburgh-Glasgow University Boat Races (Scotland).
- The Northumbria Universities Boat Race (Newcastle vs Durham, UK) is also happening, on Sunday.
Thursday 13th May 2004
- As announced in Poznan, Dutchman Nico Rienks will be the recipient of this year's Thomas Keller Medal for his outstanding career in rowing. See NLRoei for more about him (in Dutch).
Tuesday 11th May 2004
- A new Rowing T-shirt company, called A Stone Tower, which has rather more unusual artwork - see their gallery. The site includes a "Rowing Race Game" in which you collect picture-pieces to creat a snakes and ladders type board. Inventive, definitely.
- This year's SilverSkiff Regatta will include a KinderSkiff event for children from 10-13 years old. There is sponsorship from Empacher this year to help those who live a long way from Turin to bring their own boats.
Monday 10th May 2004
- There are a few places left on the ARA (UK) recreational rowing tour of the Norfolk Broads from 22nd-25th July. The list closes soon - email weyfarers@aol.com or see the Weyfarers website if you need more information.
Friday 7th May 2004
- New rowing database. FISA have beta-launched the new RowingOne database, which they have been constructing this winter. Please note that it is not finished - while they welcome constructive feedback using the email address listed on the site, there are still a lot of changes and additions being made, so it might be worth waiting before you shout about a load of errors. For now, it is well worth beta-testing - the site promises to be comprehensive and very useful when finished, including athlete and race details in full.
- From FISA, A rower returning something special to the sport.
Monday 3rd May 2004
- Bewl Bridge RC (UK) have formed a new Sunday morning junior squad - all ages welcome, apparently.
- This year's Monmouth Regatta (UK) is running on two days as there is no Worcester Regatta. Sprint Saturday, long course Sunday. (brutal - Ed.).
