- The Armada Cup (Switzerland) last weekend featured 250 sculls all starting to race at once.

- The Tyne Scullers Head was cancelled on Saturday due to rough water, but Ken Hastie of the NERN website says "if you want a laugh click here" (UK).

- Team Madine Meuse Loraine (oarsmen Sebastien Lefebvre and Gregory Loret, FRA) pulled out of the 2003 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race late last night, for reasons as yet unclear. Holiday Shoppe Challenge (NZ) is currently in the lead.
Monday 20th October 2003
- Results of the Head of the Charles (USA) up (seems to work better on IE than any other browser). From a quick look, London Training Center (Canada I presume?) seem to have blitzed through the 1997 women's champ eights record, beating USRowing, while in the men's champ eights event, Princeton Training Center were just outside the record time, but beat Victoria City RC and USRowing pretty comfortably. No sign of the Dash results yet (or perhaps they're just very well hidden).
- The 2003 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race started yesterday.
- A document on a proposed bridge across the Cam (UK).

- Early results from the 39th Head of the Charles (USA) - championship men's and women's singles winners today were Jonathan Beare and Kristin Goodrich respectively, although it could be argued Roumiana Neykova would probably have won the women's were it not for 20 seconds of penalties (steering, I think).
Friday 17th October 2003
- Rowing results from last night's BBC Superstars heat (UK) were Greg Searle 29 points (1st) and Jonny Searle 18 points (6th). Greg and rugby player Phil de Glanville go through to the final.

- The Gippsland Grammar School (co-ed, 550 students, Victoria, Australia) is once again looking for young people, probably gap-year students or similar, to help with their rowing program. They say" "The position would suit a young person just out of school or a university student wishing to take a break from studies. As in previous years the assistants would need to make their own travel arrangements to and from Australia but full accommodation and meals and a small weekly allowance would be provided. - The date of the Henley Boat Races (OU versus CU women and lightweights) in the UK has been confirmed as Sunday 21st March 2004, one week before the more famous men's boat race.

- For those who haven't managed to see them so far, the "waterski-ing behind an 8+ pictures" A and B from Vancouver Rowing Club in Canada, as mentioned recently on the rec.sport.rowing global newsgroup.
- A short from the Western Morning News (UK) says that the Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club in Plymouth have set a new record for the 40-km sea race of Plymouth Mountbatten Centre to Eddystone Lighthouse and back. They finished in just under 5 hours, 1.5 hours faster than last year.

- Mike Schofield is keen to hear from any members of the British Army who are interested in rowing.
- Results for the Rowers Revenge Triathlon (UK) now up. Overall men's and women's winners were Hywel Davies and Michelle Parsons respectively: Michelle finished 29th overall, just 12 minutes behind Hywel.
- The Boat Race 2004 is seeking volunteers to help out on the day and in the week before.
Monday 6th October 2003
- Results of the weekend's Canal Cup for international eights, in Germany, were wins for the host nation in both the ergometer sprint and 12.7km water race: more details on the official website (in German). USA were second, GBR third and NED fourth in both sections of the event.

- The Miss England 2003 competition includes a certain Miss Reading, who lists amongst her ambitions "to row at the 2008 Olympics".

- Alan Watson and Miles Barnett are two of the rowers aiming to cross the Atlantic during the 2003 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race, which starts from the Canary Islands on 19th October. Their Team Bright Spark website (Java must be enabled) is up and running.
